the song i’m feeling

“Ain’t No Sunshine” – Bill Withers

Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone.

It’s not warm when she’s away.

Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone

and she’s always gone too long

anytime she goes away.

Wonder this time where she’s gone,

wonder if she’s gone to stay

Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone

and this house just ain’t no home

anytime she goes away.

And I know, I know, I know, I know….

Hey, I ought to leave the young thing alone,

but ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone,

ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone,

only darkness everyday.

Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone,

and this house just ain’t no home

anytime she goes away.

aint no sunshine when shes gone.

ain't no sunshine when she's gone.

I’ve always loved hispanic art which often featured a distinct concept of the sun. I wondered why the sun had such a strong significance in their culture and art, so I looked it up. It turns out that in Hispanic cultures, the sun is associated with positivity, growth, and life, while the moon is its opposing antagonist. The sun plays such an important role in the mexican culture, that even their tortilla’s resemble the powerful sun-in both shape (by being round) and color ( yellow). Further, the sun is responsible for the harvest of the corn, which is whats needed to make tortillas. I think it even goes further and is related to the Aztec Sun God. have you ever noticed that the moon is solemnly displayed on its own? i’ve noticed that the art usually has either only the sun, or an “eclipse” with both the sun and the moon present.
